2005
Exodus Freedom Conference
Celebrating 30 Years of Freedom Orlando,
FL | September 2005
What an awesome week we had! God definitely
showed up in big ways. It is so humbling to see God use me
and the staff here at Exodus to help orchestrate what God
wanted to do in people's lives this year. I personally reflected
throughout the week about my first Exodus Conference. How
incredible it is to see where I was then and where I am now.
God has definitely used the Freedom Conference to
encourage, strengthen, equip, provide clarity and confirm
callings in people's lives. I am a living testimony of that!
We had an attendance of around 1,000 people
at our conference this year
at the LifeWay
Ridgecrest Conference Center located just outside of Asheville,
North Carolina. As we plan for
the 31st Annual Freedom Conference, we
are anticipating an even larger number of delegates
by moving the a more central location. We should be
able to
make the announcement about the 2006 Freedom Conference
in about a month. Thanks for your
patience and continued prayers for us as we plan next
year's conference. There are new and exciting things
on the horizon for Exodus and the Freedom Conference.
I am so excited about the direction of this ministry
and the conference. Trust me when I say, you
will not want to miss out on 2006!
Stay encouraged, press into
God, and walk daily in the strength and freedom that He offers
all of those who seek after Him with all that they have! -
David Fountain, Conference Coordinator

Highlights
& New Features
by Mike
Goeke, Executive VP of Exodus International
What a great week of ministry at the 30th Annual Exodus Freedom
Conference! Some of the week’s biggest successes were
the ‘panel’ discussions that took place on several
afternoons during the week. Panels were put together for parents,
men, women, husbands dealing with homosexuality, spouse’s
of people dealing with homosexuality and youth ministry issues.
Each of the panels was well attended and the panelists fielded
great, pertinent questions related to the topics at hand.
Based on the feedback from the delegates, these panel discussions
(and additional panels dealing with other topics) will likely
become a regular fixture at Freedom Conferences to come!
On another note, it was wonderful to hear speakers
and testimonies of people who know
and understand the beauty and relevance of the Word of God.
The speakers were uniformly grounded in Scripture, and it
was encouraging to hear that no matter our circumstances,
no matter our location, no matter our ‘extra-scriptural’
resources, that the Word of God meets us where we are, and
truly does provide us nourishment and sustenance for living
and for healing.

Leadership
Update
by Randy
Thomas, Director of Membership
Every year we have a Leadership conference and this year’s
was phenomenal. Dr. Kathy Koch, Joe Dallas and Genevieve Wood
all received great feedback from our Leadership Conference
survey. This year’s conference had over 150 Exodus Leaders
present. Along with the great teachings, we had our first
annual business meeting where attendees had three full hours
to talk about what was on their hearts. As a result, we were
further knit together in the Spirit of unity and peace.
Fourteen
Regional Reps help to work with the almost 130 Member
Ministries across North America. This incredible team
met for two days prior to the Leadership Conference. During
our time together, when we weren’t yelling and laughing
together on the high ropes course (picture
at left)), the Lord used this incredible wealth of talent
to put momentum behind a great project. We were able to hammer
out a framework for a comprehensive manual to address “all
things” Exodus related. This manual will equip and inform
those who are a part of the movement as to who Exodus is and
how and why we do what we do. With the amazing talent on this
Regional Rep team,
our goal is to have this manual finished by next summer. Please
pray that we accomplish this under the Lord’s direction,
with excellence… and on time!

- Youth and Young Adults Update
by Scott
Davis, Director of Exodus Youth
Approximately one hundred youth and young adults attended
the 30th annual Exodus Freedom Conference in July. They heard
five days of great teachings on overcoming homosexuality,
participated in small groups, and discovered that they are
not alone.
The
first night of the conference, during a special welcome reception
for youth and young adults, we assigned them to small groups.
Each group was led by an Exodus small group leader and met
daily to discuss their lives and what they were learning.
As a result of these small groups, youth told us they felt
much more safe and supported than at previous conferences.
For the first time ever, we held a special youth day with
teachers and worship just for the under-25 crowd. The room
was packed out as we discussed holding on to God in the midst
of painful circumstances and the process of overcoming homosexuality.
During our worship times, the youth crowded up front to lift
their hands in surrender to Christ. It was a beautiful time!
We heard from youth who attended that they walked away with
hope for change, feeling encouraged and not so alone anymore.
At future conferences, we will expand the youth venue to reach
more youth with the hope of Christ!

Media
Update
by Julie Neils, Director of Communications
In the past few months, Exodus had been undergoing an extreme
makeover of sorts in regards to our media operations.
This
year, our Annual Freedom Conference saw its highest
amount of press attendance. The event
was the topic of two front-page stories
in the local newspaper and over fifteen media
outlets covered it including the Associated
Press, World magazine, Time and
ABC's 20/20. We are still receiving interview
requests from other members of the press who read or
saw coverage of the conference.
We are excited to see what God is doing and covet your
prayers as we seek to handle these issues in a manner
that honors Him.

for their second through fifth conference
- 600 attendees reported religious affiliation with
over 17 different denominations or organizations
- We had delegates ranging from under
16 through their 60s
- 28% of our delegation
reported to be in their 40s

- 24% in their 30s
- We had around 100 youth (17-25) involved this
year

as Hispanic, African American, Asian and other backgrounds
- Marital Statistics: 50% of our surveyed delegation
indicated they are single,
40% reported are married couples

or 43% Female
When asked why they had decided to come to the Exodus
Conference, nearly 300 of our delegates reported of
having a current or previous struggle personally with
same-sex attractions. 106 of our delegates attended
out of love and desire to understand and help family
members and loved ones. Finally, we had 150 attendees
who are involved in Exodus Leadership, and 54 who are
licensed counselors, pastors, and other professionals

We were excited to find out that it seemed 42% of our
delegates are currently affiliated with one of our Member
Ministries. We hope that the remaining percentage were
able to find connections, support and encouragement
to continue to move forward in the healing process.
